Rep. Keith Ellison Honors America’s Veterans On Memorial Day Print
May 25, 2012

“Memorial Day is a time to pause and remember the Americans who loved their families, neighbors, and country enough to pay the ultimate sacrifice. Where would we be without the men and women who faced the brutalities of war so we could bask in the sunlight of peace? We honor our veterans who have protected and served this nation.

“This year we experience the joy of sharing this holiday with the 8,000 honored service members who have returned from the war in Iraq. We also remember the 68 servicemen and women from Minnesota who gave their lives in that war and the 510 Minnesotans who were wounded. We are also grateful to the families and friends who have endured the loss of loved ones who served.

“Veterans are our relatives, coworkers, and friends and our nation must endeavor to keep our promises to them. No veteran should lack employment, adequate health care, or other benefits they've earned for themselves and their families. I will continue to support legislation that ensures veterans will have the support they need and deserve.

“It is an honor to serve veterans from Minnesota's Fifth Congressional District and I wish everyone a safe and pleasant Memorial Day.”
